ACRA MILL PLUS INSTRUCTION SHEET

STEP 1

LOCATE THE BASE AND THE X TABLE ASSEMBLY AS SHOWN

STEP 2

INSERT THE X TABLE 1/2” WAYS INTO THE TWO  1/2” HOLES IN THE BASE AS SHOWN. THEY SHOULD SLIDE FREELY. IF NOT BACK OFF THE RED KNOB LOCK SCREW SLIGHTLY.

NOTE: APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF WHITE GREASE TO THE 1/2” RODS (WAYS) IF DESIRED FOR SMOOTHER ACTION

STEP 3

LOCATE THE Z TOWER ASSEMBLY

STEP 4

INSERT TOWER WAYS INTO THE TWO HORIZONTAL HOLES IN THE BASE.MAKE SURE THE WAYS BOTTOM OUT. NOTE: YOU CAN DISASSEMBLE THE Z TOWER AND INSERT THE RODS SEPARATELY. BE SURE THE FLATS FACE THE SET SCREWS. TIGHTEN THE TWO SET SCREWS IN THE BASE. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

NOTE: APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF WHITE GREASE ON BOTH WAYS. THIS IS RECOMMENDED FOR SMOOTHER ACTION IN THE HORIZONTAL POSITION.

STEP 5

LOCATE THE TWO BOTOM PART OF THE CLAMPS & THE SWING ARM(3/8” X 1.” X 3”). ASSEMBLE THE CLAMPS WITH THE 8-32 X 1/2” SCREWS AS SHOWN. DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY YET.

STEP 6

INSERT THE MOTO TOOL ONTO THE CLAMPS AS SHOWN. TIGHTEN THE 8-32 SCREWS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLAMPS.

STEP 7

LOCATE THE TOP OFTHE CLAMP, SET IT IN PLACE AND INSERT THE 10-32 SCREWS. TIGHTEN BY HAND AT FIRST UNTIL THEY BOTTOM OUT AND APPEAR EVEN ON BOTH SIDES

STEP 8

NOW TIGHTEN THE 10-32 SCREWS WITH THE WRENCH, GOING A LITTLE AT A TIME TO EACH SCREW UNTIL ALL APPEAR TO BE EVEN AND TIGHT. MAKE SURE TOOL IS TIGHT, AND DOES NOT SLIP OR TWIST. IMPORTANT; DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN, CLAMPS COULD CRUSH THE MOTO TOOL BODY. ESPECIALLY ON THE XPR 400 OVER THE TOP OF THE BRUSH ACCESS DOORS. MAKE SURE THE RPM IS NOT AFFECTED. TURN ON THE TOOL AND LOOSEN AND TIGHTENING WHILE RUNNING. LISTEN FOR CHANGES IN PITCH.

STEP 9

LOCATE THE 1/4”-20 X 1.1/2” SCREW AND WASHER. INSERT IN ONE OF THE TWO MOUNTING HOLES ON THE Z TOWER, TIGHTEN SNUGLY, BUT ENOUGH SO YOU CAN MOVE THE ARM AND TOOL. USE SOMETHING THAT IS SQUARE(MACHINEST SQUARE, PROTRACTOR, OR ANYTHING THAT IS TRUE.) LOWER THE SWING ARM, AND SQUARE IT UP TO THE X TABLE AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE CLAMPS. NOTE: FOR SETTING ANGLES USE THE SAME PROCEDURE.NOW TIGHTEN THE SWING ARM SCREW WITH THE WASHER IN PLACE AS SHOWN.

STEP 10

LOCATE THE TOOL PLATE 5/16” X 1.1/2” X 4.”.

STEP 11

INSERT THE TOOL PLATE IN THE X TABLE AS SHOWN. MAKE SURE THE BLACK KNOB LOCK SCREWS ARE BACKED OFF FROM THE TABLE SLOT, IT SHOULD MOVE FREELY BACK AND FOURTH, WITH NO PLAY SIDE TO SIDE. THIS IS THE MOVABLE  WORKING SURFACE AND ACTS AS A Y TABLE. THERE ARE 4 10-32 TAPPED HOLES TO MOUNT AND HOLD YOUR WORK DOWN. THE PLATE CAN BE MOVED IN AND OUT BY HAND, AND WILL MAKE AN ACCURATE CUT WHEN SAWING, GRINDING, SANDING, ETC. OR YOU CAN LOCK IT INTO POSITION AND DIAL IN YOUR WORK WITH THE X TABLE.

STEP 12

LOCATE THE Z TOWER ARM, & THE Z TOWER BASE PLATE. LOOSEN THE RED KNOB LOCK SCREWS, AND THE SET SCREWS IN THE SMALL PLATE. BRING THEM TOGETHER AT THE APPROXIMATE HEIGHT YOU WANT TO WORK AT. YOU MAY LOCK BOTH SET SCREWS, BUT ONE IS ENOUGH TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. USE THE WHITE NYLON ADJUSTING SCREW TO ADJUST YOUR WORKING HEIGHT FOR FINE ADJUSTMENTS WHEN NEEDED. ALSO WHEN THE SCREW IS DOWN LOW BETWEEN THE RODS, USE A SLOTTED SCREW DRIVER TO ADJUST UP OR DOWN. BEFORE YOU START WORKING, LOCK BOTH Z TOWER RED KNOB SCREWS FIRMLY.

YOU ARE READY TO USE YOUR ACRA MILL PLUS

SOME SUGESTIONS ARE: ALWAYS USE THE LOCK KNOBS WHEN  YOU WANT ACCURACY AND THAT PART OF THE MILL DOES NOT HAVE TO MOVE DURING A PARTICULAR OPERATION. THE WHITE NYLON SCREW ON THE X TABLE IS USED AS A GIB. USE THIS DURING MILLING AND SAWING SO THE TABLE WILL TRAVEL WITH NO PLAY. TO USE THIS FEATURE UNLOCK THE TABLE WITH THE RED KNOB, AND TIGHTEN DOWN THE WHITE NYLON SCREW SO YOU CAN STILL DIAL, BUT THERE IS NO PLAY. ALSO YOUR ACRA MILL CAN BE USED IN REVERSE,ALL THE PARTS FIT AND WORK THE SAME WITH EVERYTHING TURNED AROUND. THIS WOULD APPLY IF YOU WANTED TO TURN THE MOTO TOOL SIDEWAYS AND USE AS A SMALL LATHE. THE ACRA MILL PLUS HAS SO MANY USES, WE HAVEN’T EVEN DISCOVERED ALL OF THEM YET.

ACCESSORIES ARE ORDERED SEPARATELY, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED IN BASIC ACRA MILL PLUS

DRILL PRESS INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

LOCATE THE COMPRESSION SPRING THAT COMES WITH THE DRILL PRESS ATTACHMENT. REMOVE THE Z TOWER ARM. SLIP THE SPRING OVER THE INSIDE ROD AS SHOWN.

STEP 2

REPLACE Z TOWER ARM AND REMOVE WHITE NYLON ADDJUSTING SCREW

STEP 3

INSTALL THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY ON TOP OF THE Z TOWER ARM, AS SHOWN OVER THE COMPRESSION SPRING. DO NOT TIGHTEN YET.

STEP 4

FIND THE APPROXIMATE HEIGHT YOU WANT TO DRILL AT. LOOSEN AND SLIDE THE Z TOWER PLATE INTO PLACE, AND LOCK THE SET SCREW ON THE ONE SIDE ONLY WHERE THE COMPRESSION SPRING IS. PRESS THE Z TOWER DOWN TO A DESIRED SPRING TENSION, AND LOCK THE 10-32 SOCKET HEAD SCREW DOWN AGAINST THE FLAT OF THE ROD. DO NOT LOCK THE Z TOWER ARM.

STEP 5

INSERT THE THE WHITE NYLON 10-32 SCREW IN THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY PLATE HOLE. THIS WILL LIMIT DOWNWARD TRAVEL ON THE DRILL PRESS, AND ACT AS THE STOP. NOTE: THIS IS OPTIONAL, AND TRAVEL WILL ONLY BE LIMITED TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE SPRING, OR HOW FAR YOU FREE HAND IT.

STEP 6

INSTALL THE DRILL PRESS TABLE ((OPTIONAL),USING THE TOOL PLATE MATCH UP THE TAPPED HOLES WITH THE TWO 10-32 X 5/16” SCREWS. THERE ARE FOUR CONFIGURATIONS. NOTE: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN.

Y TABLE INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

LOCATE THE Y TABLE IN THE SLOT OF THE X TABLE. LOCK IN 4 PLACES WITH THE 4-40 BLACK KNOBS

STEP 2

THE Y TABLE WORKS THE SAME AS THE X TABLE, ONLY IN AND OUT, INSTEAD OF SIDE TO SIDE. YOU CAN DIAL IN PRECISION IN BOTH DIRECTIONS

STEP 3

USE THE VISE CLAMP TO HOLD REGULAR AND IRREGULAR  SHAPED PIECES. THE VISE CLAMPS ARE OPTIONAL, HOWEVER HOLD EVERYTHING VERY SECURE. NOTE: WHEN TIGHTENING DOWN THUMB SCREWS, BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN OR MARK YOUR WORK PIECE. USE A SMALL PIECE OF  SCRAP WOOD, OR PLASTIC BETWEEN THE SCREW AND THE WORK. ALL SCREWS ARE 8-32, AND CAN PURCHASED AT YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE.

USING THE X AND Y TABLES

THE Y TABLE LIKE THE X TABLE USES SLIP DIALS TO DIAL IN PRECISION WORK. LOOSEN THE SCREW ON THE NUMBERED DIAL, TURN THE HANDLES TO WHERE YOU WANT TO START, LOCK THE TABLES. TURN THE DIAL TO “00”, AND LOCK THEM WITH THE 4-40 SCREW. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO RETURN TO EXACTLY WHERE YOU STARTED. EACH NUMBER IS A GRADUATION OF .005”. ABOUT THE GIBS: THE WHITE NYLON SCREWS LOCATED ON THE X AND Y TABLES ACT AS GIBS, AND WHEN TURNED A LITTLE TIGHTER, LOCK THE BED IN PLACE. TO USE THE GIBS, UNLOCK THE TABLE(S). TURN THE WHITE NYLON SCREW SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL THEM TOUCH THE WAYS, BUT THERE IS NO PLAY. THE GIBS ALLOW YOU TO MILL, SAW, SAND, ETC. WHILE TURNING THE DIALS WITH NO SLOP.
